We continue our Day in the Life series today by meeting up with Yegene Lee, our Los Angeles Fellow! You can read more about Yegene and her motivations for applying for this fellowship here. In the meantime, read on to experience a day in her life!
by Yegene Lee
Hi everyone, I’m Yegene. I work in case management for military veterans as part of the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) in Los Angeles. Here’s a look at a typical day for me.
9:00am: I start my day by checking my emails and updating any case notes and immediate goals for clients.
9:30am: I hop on to the LA team’s morning meeting, where we discuss our current caseload, potential resources, and outreach to partners who can help create a network of support for our clients.
10:30am -12:00pm: I spend the morning receiving calls from clients about their resume, where they currently are in their employment process, and if they might need any resources in particular. I also spend time editing resumes, updating the caseload, and managing client-related documents.
12:00pm-1:00pm: Time for lunch!
1:00pm-3:15pm: I conduct outreach to any clients I might not have spoken to on the caseload, to see where they might be in their steps to employment. If they need to speak with our Business Specialist, I make relevant appointments. I also enroll new clients during this time if there are any referrals; I’ll speak with them about their work history and discharge status before conducting a full intake.
3:15pm - 4:00pm: Team meeting with the LA staff. We update each other on who we spoke with on our caseload, any potential referrals or resource partners, and next steps for the following day.
4:00pm: I’ll spend the rest of the day updating case notes and updating my time sheet.
5:00pm: Time to clock out and start cooking some dinner!
