What's changed and what hasn't
Today, we announce the update of the official name of our company's corresponding fellowship opportunity. We have changed our name from the Work First Fellowship to America Works Fellowship. We have also adjusted our application process and will be requesting that all applicants inquire about the America Works Fellowship and application process by emailing amiranda@americaworks.com.
Our mission hasn't changed as the bridge between aspiring public policy and social work professionals and low-income individuals, especially public assistance recipients. The Work First Fellowship is still designed to give young professionals interested in becoming leaders in their fields, informing and creating policy, or simply serving individuals from marginalized and disadvantaged backgrounds by providing a tangible year-long experience working directly with underserved populations.
How we got here
Since its inception eight years ago, the fellowship has nearly doubled and spread to 5 states. Fellows have the opportunity to take advantage of hands-on professional development. Fellows have attended events hosted by New York City Employment and Training Coalition, Manhattan Institute, New York University, Network After Work, City University of New York, Concordia Institute, and NationSwell, among other think tanks, universities, and institutes.
We are very excited to announce that the fellowship is once again evolving and growing into its next chapter with this new name.
Staying true to ourselves
With this renaming, we are set to retain all of the professional development and research elements that this fellowship provides. At the same time, we are creating the space for the fellowship to grow and connect with even more young professionals. We will never lose our impact on our clients in the process, so we focused on capturing the essence of what the fellowship has always been. We are excited to welcome the new class of a legacy of fellows and the first class of the America Works Fellowship.
